According to Bob Woodward's book, "Plan of Attack," Colin Powell was kept "in the refrigerator" for the first 16 monts of the Bush presidency, much to his annoyance. Also, according to Woodward, Prince Bandar of Saudi Arabia was briefed on the Iraq war plan and told the war was going down by Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and Gen. Richard B. Myers before Powell knew war was certain. I put Powell back in the refrigerator for that one. 04.22.04
Two new polls were released Tuesday showing Bush ahead of Kerry by about five points despite the mess in Iraq and critical books by Bob Woodward and Richard Clarke. Bob Woodward writes in his new book, "Plan of Attack," that Colin Powell referred to Dick Cheney ally Undersecretary of Defense Doublas J. Feith's office as the "Gestapo office." Feith was part of the neocon group with Paul Wolfowitz and Scooter Libby. Today, Powell told news reporters that he didn't remember using the word "Gestapo." That's Powell in the scribble making up phrases that could sound like Gestapo as an excuse.
