On Monday, Matthew Dowd -- Bush's pollster and strategist -- sent out an e-mail lowering expectations about Bush polls for the next few weeks. It was apparently timed to coincide with John Kerry's selection of a vice presidential candidate. In the memo, Dowd said the presidential race will "swing wildly" to Kerry's favor in the next few weeks because of the V.P. selection and the Democratic convention. The purpose of Dowd's spin is to downplay the importance of Kerry's V.P. announcement and to prepare Bush backers for the swing in the polls. Click here to see Dowd's memo. 07.06.04
