The Republican convention begins today in New York City. The location and date was chosen over a year ago to invoke memories of 9/11. No wonder. Bush's approval ratings were off the chart in the weeks following 9/11 just as any president's ratings at the time would have been. That wasn't lost on boy genius Karl Rove.
The Republicans hope to transport undecided voters back to that time emotionally and get them to think of Bush in that light. There's a piece in the New York Times today by Adam Nagourney and Robin Toner headed "The G.O.P. Arrives, Putting Sept. 11 Into August." 08.30.04
