By Charles Pugsley Fincher, A Spin-Off of

Attorney General John Ashcroft and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist have forgotten about the division of powers in the United States government among the executive, legislative and judicial branches and the resulting checks and balances. No surprise. Right?!

Ashcroft's understanding of checks and balances:
"Federal judges are jeopardizing national security by issuing rulings contradictory to President Bush's decisions on America's obligations under international treaties and agreements, Attorney General John Ashcroft said Friday." New York Times.

Frist's understanding of checks and balances:
"Frist said he expected a chairman to understand that he is responsible 'to the feelings, the wishes, the beliefs, the values, the procedures that are held by the majority of that committee.' "

"He added that Specter, as chairman, 'has a clear obligation ... to take what the president nominates [and] get that nomination through committee.' "
